I've had just enough time to... sing the praise of shadows.
Taken in my favourite hotel in the historic city of Malacca, Malaysia
If you
understand shadows
You will
appreciate its silence
Its
floating softness
Its
fleeting forms
That
tells a richer story
Than
sharp edges
If you
appreciates shadows
You will
wait with patience
For it
to reveal
The
nature of its dances
That
takes you dancing along
Through their
illumination
The
object is true
The
shadow is not
If you
believe that
You live
a world only of light
And have
no reason
To
praise the nature of shadows

ReplyDeleteIn my favourite hotel of the famous city of Malacca, Malaysia; I spied this water lily in the hotel garden. My friends were busy taking shot of the beautiful flowers but I told them they are missing something. Though the flower is lovely, it is not special. But if they were to take it with its shadow, then the shadow will bring out the true beauty of the flower.

ReplyDeleteSee how shadows make this a more interesting picture than it otherwise would be. This shot as all my shots are, are straight off the camera. I don't even crop any of my photos insisting that every shot must be as I took it. The water lily is the same as in the other photograph. As to how the effects were created, give a guess :)

I'm guessing a double exposure or a shot through a window. regardless, it's a wonderful picture!

You seek light even behind dark shadows,Thou ...
And,you always manage to reveal the magic secret of life!!!
Your friends captured the surface of the beautiful flowers while you went deeper into the charm of the wonderful purple petals looking for the real source of colour and light.
Loved the soft words of your verses and the " two" faces of the reflective water lily.
We all have a shadow when in light .. and I love it when it unrolls to present its bright side ...
A beautiful water lily image,Thou, with the real essence of life.

Ethereal image and composite,Thou !!!
Love the puzzling side of the synthesis and its intricate nature!
Although there are no shadows,it is more shadowy than ever.
So many elements involved that I am at a complete loss.
Interior decor with a beautiful vessel and a Portuguese vessel, historic references to the Sultanate of Malacca 1400-1511,photos hanging on the wall, rido curtains,French doors, and,a young lady probably in an exterior space shooting the beautiful water lily in the fountain while you are shooting her.
Was anyone shooting you shooting her ?
Any help ? I am lost in a very focused way ...
Salient features, dazzling effects, reflections and a wonderful complex frame that you could't have staged it better.
Tantalizingly beautiful dear friend Thou !!!!

For my dear friend Doda -
There are three parts all combined into one when I shot at the reflection of the glass wall separating the hotel museum and the courtyard and the wall beyond that. I did not shoot through glass but glass that reflected back and where there are shadows, it showed the contents of the room clearer. So it is part reflection, past shooting through and merged everything into a single image.

Rattling fantastic upshot, justified beyond a "shadow" of a doubt !!!!!
It's the most impressive, natural process I have ever seen !!!
Thank you so much for the elucidations dear friend Thou.
Have a brilliant weekend !!!
