Just A Squirrel Looking For A Nut - Part I

I've had just enough time to...   see a squirrel hunting for nuts.

Saw this squirrel looking for nut in Lake Chini, Pahang, Malaysia

This world is a complicated place
For a squirrel  just looking for a nut
Not asking for much
Not asking for much

No need to hoard them in a pile
No need to bury them over the place
Just enough to get it by
When winter comes around

But the forest is gone
In its place concrete spawn
And the nuts that grow on trees
Are no longer to be found
No longer to be found

This world is no place for a forest
This world is no place for a squirrel
This world is no place for a nut

  1. Yes it is sad that Nature is being destroyed everywhere in the name of progress.

This photo was taken in the beautiful Lake Chini resort that was said to harbor not one but two Nagas or dragons though no one has ever managed to capture a shot of them much like the Loch Ness Monster. People used to flock all over the country to come to view the lotus flowers that can be found blooming in the lake during the low rainfall season. However, sadly the lotus are dying in the lake. The authorities in "all their wisdom" decided to build a dam to flood the lake to enable the marshland to have a higher water level for "better tourism". Now the lotus are dying for the level is too high for the lotus to survive and the dam affected the natural dramatic rise and fall of the water level during the dry and rainy months. It was good for a while but now because the lake can no longer be flushed out naturally, pollution is affecting the once pristine lake and the "Arang Asli" or indigenous people living around the edge of the lake who depends on the lake for clean water and fishing are having a hard time earning a living. Man in his wisdom thinks he can improve on Nature. Nature needs no improvement because it does it naturally.

This shy and colorful squirrel will run up and down the tree and when it felt it is safe enough came down to eat the palm fruit from the bunch that is left for it. While on one hand, I'm glad that by doing so, it enabled me to catch a shot of this beautiful creature. On the other hand, I'm sad that it has to come to this. That we are taming the wild and that is kind of sad. Guess I'm a hopeless romantic.
