On a hot
summer’s day
In the
middle of the road
Large
vehicles churning dusts
And belching
smokes
There
she stood
Last
night was tough
Sleep
still in her eyes
She let
out a mighty yawn
Sucking
in hot air and dust
Eyes starting to smart
Why does
she do what she does?
Is it by
choice she stays in the middle of the road
Surrounded
by rushing vehicles and dirty smokes?

I was on my way to Kaifeng to visit a factory. Coming to an intersection, I saw a number of people by the sides of the road holding flags and umbrellas. Later, I learned that they were local tour guides soliciting for business. It was hot and large trucks continuously rumbled by churning up columns of dusts. I saw this particular guide standing practically in the center of the road as she waited for business. She let out a mighty yawn just as my car passed by and I snapped this shot. For me, there is something very poignant about this image about how tough life is for some.

Hello Dear Thou........ hmmm you caught her yawning ........ probably she had not slept much the night before..... probably so many problems... at so young age.... and it will be so difficult to overcome the troubles in a short time... I agree, thou, Poignant image ....before even reading the accompanying empathetic words. She looks so young. And rather fragile. Like a waif. Why the centre of the road? To separate herself from the pack, those soliciting the same work she seeks? A dangerous business with trucks rumbling by.... polluted air zapping her life energy. A tough way to earn a living. At the moment it seems the only thing beautiful about her life is her green umbrella.

A poignant image . The competition for clients must be fierce ....she must make herself as visible as possible ...in the middle of the road . But the day is hot ...the road is dusty ....she needs more sleep ...she feels tired and yawns . All of this is captured in your excellent candid shot ...and we can only wish the road of her life will lead to a better place ...that is our hope for the young lady with the umbrella .

A beautiful shot Thou. I love how you have captured this moment and the whole hazy atmosphere full of action and dust on a hot sweltering day - and of the lady standing with her pretty umbrella. It's unfortunate to learn of the real life situation of this shot. Life can be tough and this is a wonderful illustration of this. It is sad indeed to know of the lengths people have to go to to make a living. Another wonderfully thought provoking capture and writing my friend. : ))
