The
valley sleeps
Under
the watchful eyes of the snowy peaks
Under
the cottony blankets of soft mists
Silence
as peaceful as sleep
Harmony
as beautiful as peace
I was up
early to see the valley sleeps
Dwarfed
by the majestic mountains
As
ancient as the slowly departing stars
A speck
in the universe of time
A slight
stirring of the morning breeze
Shudders
the slumbering Earth
Interrupting
its peaceful sleep
With the
patience and respect it commands
I was up
early to welcome the soft glow
Of the
approaching Himalayan dawn

We arrived at the mountain resort late that night before over treacherous roads where buses passed each other by just inches. We were exhausted after the long, tedious journey that took the whole day from Kathmandu. But I was up early the next morning when the valley is still shrouded in darkness and a million stars blinked at us. Though a late riser, how can one sleep in this mystical, magical place that is as old as time? The silence is deeper than I had ever experienced and the cold wrapped round me tightly even as I pulled my clothings in for a little extra warmth. But my spirit is as sharp as the cold and I breathed in deeply the crisp air even as it caused me to shiver. I wanted to remember this morning even as I know I will never forget doing nothing. But I want my spirit to touch that of the mountain. So slowly, alone I began my ‘formless silent dance’. I closed my eyes and let my limbs being moved by unseen spirits. More than my body, it was my soul who was dancing that morning. It was the most beautiful dance I had ever danced and probably ever will…

That is a dawn that I will never ever forget. Sometimes when the going gets tough and I hope for a new beginning like the year before, I will recall that early morning when I'm at the roof of the world with those majestic mountains. And in silent homage, I danced away all my cares and I was at one with Mother Nature and was reborn. That one morning will sustain me a lifetime. If you ever have the chance, that is one place I will highly recommend. The arduous journey is worth it - just to be in view with the silent Mountains that speaks to you your deepest secrets.

I can imagine it's a wonderful place to get a better perspective of life and to reflect on what really matters and the futility of things that we get caught up in in our day to day lives. It's no surprise therefore, that this place has great religious and spiritual significance. Another beautiful capture and perspective of this outstanding, majestic and sacred place Thou. I love your description of the scene in particular "the cottony blankets of soft mist". It sounds like you had a profound spiritual and freeing experience up there. - perhaps in a trance like a dancer performing the Zar or like a whirling derwish. It all sounds really wonderful.
