"The sharp knife of a short life

I've had just enough time..."

- "If I Die Young" The Band Perry

I see Beauty in many things. And like the ghosts that only speak to you if you notice them, they tell me wondrous tales. With my camera and my thoughts, I captured these as faithfully as I can to share with you. And by doing so, they gave me the reasons. And though the thousand reasons may not all be sweet and some indeed bitter; they are still reasons to live. Come to think about it, that is Life, isn't it?

The Last Tree Standing

I've had just enough time to...   witness the last tree left standing

Saw this last tree left standing in Malacca, Malaysia.

Of all the tall shady trees
That once graced this area
This is the last one standing
The last bastion against the encroachment
The last hangouts for the remaining birds
The last tower yet to be stormed
But it is a losing battle
For the black tide of
Development swept all in its way
It too will fall
And when it does
Who shall mourn its passing…?

________

My horizon:
Jet-black mountain, crumbling into the sea
Littly city, you're still so young
But you got so dirty
Hey old ocean, are you still holding on?
You look so sad and empty
Fires burning, forest falling
Forevergreen, forevergone

I was looking for a car park off the very crowded main road in the city of Malacca when I found this car park behind a block away from the main traffic. As I got out of the car, I saw this majestic tree towering over the rest. It is the last tree left standing. I was glad that someone has the presence of mind to leave it as it is. It must have been here for many decades and have shaded many hawkers doing business under its protective branches. It must have seen much of the city as it grew and grew. The stories it could have tell if we can hear its tales. But I know its days are numbered. It is still healthy and in the prime of its Life but the black tide of development has pushed up to its roots. I paused under its shade and said "Thank you. I'm sorry. You who gave so much will never get your just rewards." As I walked away, a gentle breeze blew and some leaves came floating down...

A fine shot of this beautiful tree ! What a striking and commanding presence it has ...and ...at the same ...very graceful . I am sure that it casts a wonderful pool of cool shade....so welcome in the heat of the midday . It is almost like a living temple ...and I hope those who live near it will repect and preserve this noble plant ....it is indeed a treasure . Wishing you a happy December :-)

i was in malawi...and took a photo of children being taught outdoors, under the last remaining tree in the area... and it was next to the school...
within a year...the headmaster had cut it down to use for firewood...
this is the school... the photo does not show the tree although it was there when the photo was taken.. just out of sight...

So tis' that the unceasing course of human development has changed our once beautiful natural planet. Much has been lost since we left the Garden of Eden. Too bad we cannot live more in harmony with our surrroundings.
