I've had just enough time... to feel for the lion on the roof
Taken of the lion on the roof in a small street in Malacca
I saw a lion on a roof
What is a lion doing on a roof?
I’ve no idea
It had seen better days
That I’m sure
Now left to the weather
Its days are numbered
But I felt
It rather be on the roof
Than in a dark attic
Among the dust and forgotten things
Here it watches the crowd below
They used to watch him roar
But no one looks up now
They are too busy finding their ways
I saw the lion on the roof
It is slowly fading away

I was walking through one of the side street in Malacca looking for the Nyonnya shoe master when I instinctively looked up. There was a lion on the roof! It looked down at me with sad eyes but a wide grin that I took notice. No else did. Everyone seem to be busy rushing along and even if they noticed, the faded lion head is not something to interest or impress them. I stood there for a while and paid silent tribute to the faded giant and its by-gone glory days. I could hear the crowd roared when it performed in its youth. Our heart met and we shared a moment of sadness and then, I too have to be on my way...
A 1000 Reasons (Double "S" - Sad & Stressed)
Yesterday, I had a farewell lunch with an old friend that had worked with me for many years. We have gone through a lot, both good and bad times. We crashed often but I always respect the goodness in the man and will miss him. The moment is poignant as I felt more of us will follow his footstep, it is only a matter of time. Maybe sooner than we think. I wrote the above before the lunch but I thought it very appropriate to use it as a remembrance of a gentle giant with a bad roar :). My dear friend, I learned yesterday you found my blog on your own and you did know that I wrote it. Now you know. And if you're reading this - this is for you!
This is so sweet! :) Happy lying in a hammock in the sun, Uncle!

Yes , I agree. Much better to be on the roof ..where he can feel the sun and rain ...look up at the clouds ...watch the throngs of people hurrying here and there . A fine place to sit and dream of the old glory days ...a fitting place for the king of beasts to live out the sunlight of his days . Fine work ...and a nice dedication to your friend !

Perhaps this lion is put on the roof to guard the city and frighten away any enemies. I agree with you - in that better that it is on the roof then hidden and wasted away in some dark attic. At least he hasn't been moved or disturbed from his little throne on the roof where he can see all familiar things and people till his dying day. As for saying goodbye to your wonderful friend - I can understand how sad you must feel - and I am sure he will be very moved by your beautiful tribute to him. And yes - generally speaking goodbyes are never easy as we all get very attached to people and situations. And the more attached we are the more painful it is to separate from them.
At moments like this I always find it helpful to remind myself the Buddhist outlook and teachings on impermanence of everything in life - (which includes impermanence of bad things/situations too). I hope you find these helpful and if not helpful then at least interesting.

I hope you feel better soon and your stress will go soon too. Take care my friend. I will be thinking of you with best wishes : ))
