"The sharp knife of a short life

I've had just enough time..."

- "If I Die Young" The Band Perry

I see Beauty in many things. And like the ghosts that only speak to you if you notice them, they tell me wondrous tales. With my camera and my thoughts, I captured these as faithfully as I can to share with you. And by doing so, they gave me the reasons. And though the thousand reasons may not all be sweet and some indeed bitter; they are still reasons to live. Come to think about it, that is Life, isn't it?

Bang A Drum For My Country

I've had just enough time to...   bang a drum for my country.

Taken in a shopping complex in KL where the audience are mesmerized by the banging of drums.

My voice is stifled
But my heart bleeds
It bangs loudly
But the air is stilled
It carries nothing
Of how we feel…

So I bang on a drum!

I bang it loud to take my shout
I bang it soft to mourn our grief
I bang it slow to gather our pride
I bang it quick to hasten the pace
And the sound carries the roof
To the city below
And the citizens look up
And stamp their feet
And the uproar rose through the land
“Equality for all in our motherland!”

_______

I called upon my brother
Just the other day
He said, "John I'm gonna
Die if I don't start to live again"

I work each day and night like clockwork
Just tryin' to make ends meet
I could kick this bad world's ass
If I could just get on my feet

I'd bang a drum for the dyin'
Bang a drum for the truth
Bang a drum for the innocence
Lost in our youth

Bang a drum, bang it loudly
Or as soft as you need
Bang a drum for you brother
And a drum for me

Have You Seen An Orang Utan Dreaming?

I've had just enough time...   to share an orang utan's grief.

Taken in the orang utan island, Bukit Merah.

High above my head,
High on top of a dead tree.
An Orang Utan hang motionlessly.
Was he staring at the sky
Or was he looking at the jungle green
Just beyond the electric fence?

I couldn’t tell.
But what was apparent to me was -
His longing,
His pining,
His dream.

I thought it a great idea. An island reserved specially for orang utan for them to roam free. I gladly paid the RM28 for the boat ride that I was told, helped to maintain their natural habitat. But what I saw shocked me. I saw a small strip of land by the shore barricaded from the jungle. I saw the angry faces of apes with vengeful eyes staring back at us from two layers of fences, one electrified. I saw an orang utan that gave me the same look that Caesar of the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” did. I saw it throwing an empty coconut husk at us in frustration and anger. I saw baby orang utans in diapers. But the saddest sight and most tragic to me was high above us on top of a dead tree was an orang utan pining for his home. I couldn’t wait to get off the island and away from that cursed place. So if you heard about an island paradise for orang utan in West Malaysia, think twice about going there.
