I've had just enough time to... revisit Taiping Lake Garden
The beauty and serenity of Taiping Lake Garden and its
town has inspired many of my posts. After the last post regarding the
controversy surrounding the rain trees of the garden, I decided to revisit
them and invite you to visit them together with me. (Click on the link to
access any of the post)
The town is reputed to have the best “popiah” in the
country. But it taste different from my distant memory so I compare it against
first love.
There is something very sad about empty benches and these
row of empty benches under the ancient rain trees seemed so melancholy to me.
The political scene in the country is depressing with
politicians trying to determine for us what patriotism is. I wanted to tell
them what patriotism is not! The photo is taken in the museum near the lake.
As much as the area surrounding the lake is beautiful,
there are also quiet places that you can visit for reflection like the war
cemetery. Don’t think me odd until you have taken a walk with the dead.
As I read the names and inscriptions on the tombstones, I
wonder how long will a name live? If it
is carved in stone, will it live forever?
I came across a crooked bridge in the garden and was
confronted with this question “If Life is a crooked bridge, can you walk
straight?”
Upset by the political scene, I was inspired to write a
satire. If you are Malaysian, you should be able to understand at least some
of the allusion. I was looking for an image to go along with it when I thought
this in front of the Taiping museum appropriate.
A 1000 Reasons
ReplyDeleteLook at the twisted branch of this century old rain tree that reached down from its great height to touch the water. That is the difference with the young trees, which branches stretches skyward. But these ancient trees are more humble. They have reached upward as far as they wanted to go and now they bow down to touch the ground. It is as if they carry the weight of the years in their branches. Moss grows on it given it a wizened look. Oh, if only I could read their mind, the tales they could tell! How can we even think of harming something as precious as this?

Heartfelt description of what you see & feel regarding this magnificent ancient tree, thou. We too carry the weight of years in our bodies as we age, some we see become as bent as this bowed branch. It must be painful. Does the tree feel pain in some form? Perhaps. Or is the water of life spread out beneath it its salvation?
I felt sad reading of the deprivation of a childhood that didn't include simple joys that many kids take for granted. But there is an easy solution to your dilemma of believing it now too late to rectify, thou. Borrow a child. A niece, a nephew, the child of a friend, any child. Treat the child to the ride you never had. Ride the carousel with the child. Why not? One sees it all the time. Adults indulging in the pleasures of childhood under the guise that they need to be there for the child's safety and / or security. There you go *~*

What a beautiful and breathtaking image of this magnificent treasure of nature that has a lot to teach and give us And such beautiful and wise thoughts from you. These trees to me are sacred and full of life supporting qualities. They are indeed very beautiful and wise and yet humble too. They are very strong and yet vulnerable too. It certainly leaves you wondering - how can people indeed, even think of harming something as precious as this?"
BTW - thank you very much for your kind message. I have replied under it.
Take care my friend : ))

The branch seems laden down with moss
Very worthwhile write-up. Esp. the actual stands employed to keep the go. I wouldn't have noticed it alone. Will have to look carefully at old photos to determine this selection. D3 Gold
