"The sharp knife of a short life

I've had just enough time..."

- "If I Die Young" The Band Perry

I see Beauty in many things. And like the ghosts that only speak to you if you notice them, they tell me wondrous tales. With my camera and my thoughts, I captured these as faithfully as I can to share with you. And by doing so, they gave me the reasons. And though the thousand reasons may not all be sweet and some indeed bitter; they are still reasons to live. Come to think about it, that is Life, isn't it?

Pisces Cannot Swim

I've has just enough time to...   swim outside the boundary

Taken in the Maeklong Railway Market Bangkok of fishes uniquely presented for sales

Pisces caught in a vice
Unable to escape.
Out of its element.
Boxed in.
Where is the dream?

Out of ocean
Out of water
Out of space to swim
Out of a land to be free

Is this world an illusion?
Or is it a dream?
Is reality written in the stars?
Or is it sold two for twenty?

Rule by emotion
Kill by cold steel
Misjudge the tide
The water retreat
Pisces are left
Floundering on the beach

_____________

Some times my life it seems like fiction

Some of the days it's really quite serene
I'm a living proof of all life's contradictions
One half's going where the other half's just been

And I'm a Pisces fish and the river runs through my soul
I'm a Pisces fish and the river runs through my soul

  1. Very good poem! Unfortunately, in my life have been moments when I felt the unreality of this world.

  2. I think there are times in all our lives when we felt "the unreality of the world". But I've learned that if we preserve with what felt right to our spirit, we will find our balance though it may take a while.

I was on my way to the famous Railway Market in Meaklong when I passed by another wet market on the way there. I saw these fishes neatly arranged in "din sum" bamboo trays. They looked very uncomfortable. The image that sprang immediately to mind is the horoscope Pisces but the nature of the fish is to swim freely. But even in death, these fishes appeared trapped in a very uncomfortable position. It is kind of sad for me - pisces cannot swim.

The parable of Jesus multiplying the 5 loaves & 2 fish to feed the hungry thousands ..... evoked on first viewing of your image, thou. Not a sad thing...the fisherman sells his catch to earn a living to feed his children .... the fish's omega 3 fatty acids' multiple heath-giving benefits to those who feed on it....there is much here to give thanks for.

Showy arrangement, bright silver reflections and plenty of "light",Thou !
Your work on the image is an incredible blending of poetry and prose expressing sympathy for the now lifeless fish.
"Mors tua, vita mea", your death my life, and other cruel laws to help us survive ...
The Pisces mutable sign connections and the "Dim Sum" references are so convincing ! Will you ever let any slight detail drop down ?
Two fish placed looking in different directions to save space or to point out different notions ?
One rises to heaven and to spiritual worlds while the other is looking down for more earthy and trivial pursuites.
You delve deep into life itself with your similarities and your metaphors and you carry me away my dear friend.
Next time I am cooking fish I will be thinking of Pisces Cannot Swim ...

Such a poignant poem to go with this sad shot. Sensitivity and ability to empathise can be a wonderful thing, but the down side is that it also makes us vulnerable to getting depressed. So to balance things perhaps its a good idea to also think that these fish also have their victims - smaller fish and other small creatures etc. And also to look at the postive side as your contact ana-lee-smith says. All the lives that benefit from them. Of course vegetarianism could be another option - but I have heard that even plants have feelings. So its hard to know where to stop.
