"The sharp knife of a short life

I've had just enough time..."

- "If I Die Young" The Band Perry

I see Beauty in many things. And like the ghosts that only speak to you if you notice them, they tell me wondrous tales. With my camera and my thoughts, I captured these as faithfully as I can to share with you. And by doing so, they gave me the reasons. And though the thousand reasons may not all be sweet and some indeed bitter; they are still reasons to live. Come to think about it, that is Life, isn't it?

The Reason For A Scarecrow

I've had just enough time to...  ask a scarecrow

A drive by shooting of the innocent scarecrow in Lebanon

Does a scarecrow scares crows?
If not, why have a scarecrow?
Having someone to look after the crop
Does it give you comfort?
When you know it does not do the job?
The birds are not fooled
To them it as a joke
To think they will be scared
By something as stiff as that

The birds knew
And the farmers too
The scarecrow is there only for show

The farmers can tell you
The birds too in their twitters
That there is a purpose to it all
A tradition that ought be followed

The scarecrows beg to disagree
The reason is that they exist

  1. A 1000 Reasons (Off to Johore)
I was in a bus in Lebanon when we drove by a small plot of field and I saw this scarecrow made from a blue pail and an old shirt. The poor farmer made do with what is available at hand. I don't know why but I always have a sympathy for scarecrow, the ones that guard the field not the ones that travel the yellow road or the one that battle batman. Still, I always wonder - how effective are scarecrows? Are the birds really frightened of them. If not, why is the reason for the scarecrow. So I asked the scarecrow the reason for his existence...

Wonderful capture Thou - and great poem too. Certainly makes you wonder about the real purpose of the scarecrow. Love your reflection on this matter. I suspect it's a little bit of everything. It probably doesn't work as well as the farmer hopes, but just enough to make it worth his while. Especially on windy days when the sleeve might move a little. Though I think it could benefit from being a less stiff design lol. And although the birds might not be fully fooled by it, on windy days there might be little seed of doubt in their minds as to whether this scarecrow is as harmless as they think. Apart from all that - the farmer may also get a certain sense of comfort from just the presence of the scarecrow in an otherwise empty field.
BTW - Thank you for all your wonderful and reflective comments in my stream. Also interesting to know about the worldwide reputation of Geese, including your experience. I wish you a very happy and positive Friday and weekend my friend : ))

    Thou,that's quite a showy scarecrow,an inventive composite!
I could never imagine that a scarecrow would create such a fanciful frame. It it were not for the surrounding countryside, I should have thought that the photo had to do with the setting up of a shopwindow.
Most of the scarecrows I have seen wear men's cloths; Why that ? Is it part of this old tradition ? The funny thing though is when sometimes you see birds standing on them. I am so delighted then ... Apparently, the birds outsmart the farmers.
In England they hold some scarecrow festivals which means that a scarecrow is more than the explicit practicality.
Well,I so much enjoyed the thematic photo and I have developed a strong liking for this neat and tidy scarecrow !!!
Have a brilliant weekend my dear friend !
