I've had just enough to... make friend with the milk maid's cow
Taken in the Muslim section of the town of Marjeyoun, a Lebanese town bordering Israel.
A rusty door
opens with a reluctant creak
Who
will emerge from its shadowy depth?
A large
straw hat, light blue jeans and leather boots
A milk
maid with her hand on her hips
And a
smile bigger than her pretty lips
But
where is the cow that follows the maid?
Strange
I did not see it till my face was licked.

ReplyDeleteI was following a World Vision delegation to the town of Marjeyoun in Southern Lebanon bordering Israel to visit a sponsored child. It was sad to see a rich agricultural region torn by war and divided by religions. I don’t know who is right and who is wrong. Probably both sides are right and both equally wrong. But with so much bloodshed and such a long history of violence, there is no easy solution. All I know is that there are victims of war and each of us should do our little bit, if we can. But even in this impoverished Muslim village, I found smiles and beauty in many forms – like the lass and her cow.

And you will wonder – why can’t we all live in peace? And have mutual respect for our differences. Why do we have to take up arms to settle them? We gave a smile and received smiles a-plenty in return. Why can’t we be trading smiles instead of trading blows? I smiled at the pretty milk maid and she returned me a brilliant smile and both of us felt happy for a while…

Perfectly framed Thou,with the shadowy depth behind the half open door resembling the chaotic situation of the torn region and the door repairs that show how hard they try to heal over any war wounds ... Most unfair situations against innocent people,I don't know who is right or wrong,they don't either,but I hate the notion that Might is Right ... with all its potential meanings.They sacrifice everything,my dear friend,for the cause of big interests ...
