"The sharp knife of a short life

I've had just enough time..."

- "If I Die Young" The Band Perry

I see Beauty in many things. And like the ghosts that only speak to you if you notice them, they tell me wondrous tales. With my camera and my thoughts, I captured these as faithfully as I can to share with you. And by doing so, they gave me the reasons. And though the thousand reasons may not all be sweet and some indeed bitter; they are still reasons to live. Come to think about it, that is Life, isn't it?

Where Will This Path Leads Me?

I've had just enough time...   to take the path that is offered.

I let the path leads me wherever it leads me but
I do not forget to smell the flowers along the way

It is interesting where paths will lead you if you let them lead the way. That is why when I find myself in a strange city, I like to wander off on my own. Aimlessly. And let the path leads me wherever it may lead. I have always made interesting discoveries this way. Without fail. In every city I have been to.

I just started a new blog and it already is leading me to interesting places. I wrote about the books I read and the books I intend to read. That led me to a mail exchange I had with Liza Dalby, the author of Geisha and The Tale of Murasaki a long time ago about my graveyard of books - http://a1000reasons.wordpress.com/2014/01/25/my-graveyard-of-books/. A comment by a reader led me to reflect on my first meeting with a geisha - "When I was a young man of 21, ages ago. I found myself one night in Tokyo along with a colleague and my ex-boss; each with a geisha accompanying us. We were hosted by maybe 6 or 7 Japanese gentlemen from a large organization toasting us with a mixture of Suntory beer, Black Label whiskey and warm sake..." You can read it here - http://a1000reasons.wordpress.com/2014/01/30/the-geisha-who-showed-me-her-empty-cup/

Sometimes it leads me to strange places
But it never fails to lead me to interesting places

I will continue to wander off the main track and let Life surprises me. It is one of my greatest pleasure to find Life's hidden treasures.

This shot was taken in Sungei Buloh, a former leper colony in the old days that were transformed into flower farms. Every year I will come here to buy flowers of the new year. But this shot was not so much about the orchid beautiful though they are. It is about the lighted path that leads away from this place to new discoveries. I like to take small paths off the beaten track to wander about aimlessly.

Thou-San, you and I share a love of beautiful orchids. These are so pretty. Are they from your garden? Thank you for sharing.

Paths off the beaten track...If I am honest I'll say that while I am fascinated and am drawn to the excitement of an uncharted path, I also approach it with fear in my heart, not knowing what that might bring, and what I might find. It may bring me more misery and disappointed than I had bargained for, but it could also have the potential to lead me to new discoveries. Regardless, it is still worthwhile to trudge ahead and in the process of discovering new places etc, discover ourselves.

But usually there is not a single path but many paths to choose from. Here is another and different one leading to the opposite directions. And we can't travel them all. If we decide to head off one path, don't look back longingly at the other and wonder if it could be the better path. Just go on the path you have chosen gleefully and excited about the discoveries you will be making. That other path is already fading into insignificance...

Thou-San, this is a lovely orchid, indeed. Enjoy every path, my friend.

Some pathways move in tandem and you can be on multiple pathways simultaneously. However, as you've noted, there are some pathways that are divergent and mutually exclusive. In which case, given limited time, resources etc, I will need to make a careful choice - and once decided, keep focused and enjoy the journey on the selected pathway :)
